We are a patient-centered, multi-location private optometry practice serving Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia. As we open a brand-new location in Lansdowne VA, we are seeking a warm, organized, and reliable Front Desk Receptionist / Optometric Technician to become a key part of our growing team.
This dual-role position is ideal for someone who enjoys both patient interaction at the front desk and hands-on clinical support in the exam lane. You will play a critical role in shaping the patient experience from the moment they walk in to the moment they leave.
Position Overview:
The Front Desk Receptionist / Optometric Technician serves as both the welcoming face of the office and a clinical support team member. This role ensures smooth front-office operations while assisting doctors with pre-testing, diagnostics, and patient flow throughout the day. Candidates should be friendly, detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities Front Desk / Patient Service Coordinator Duties:
- Greet and assist patients as they arrive for appointments.
- Manage check-in and check-out processes accurately and professionally.
- Schedule appointments, confirmations, cancellations, and specialty lens visits.
- Verify insurance benefits and clearly communicate coverage and out-of-pocket costs.
- Answer and route incoming calls; return voicemails promptly.
- Monitor and respond to office emails (including info@eyerx.com) within 2 hours.
- Accept and post payments for services and materials.
- Notify patients when contact lenses or materials are ready for pickup.
- Monitor patient communication and scheduling platforms.
- Scan documents and upload to patient charts in Compulink (EHR).
- Complete Compulink Action Items in a timely manner.
- Print nightly closeout reports and assist with end-of-day tasks.
- Open or close the office when assigned.
- Cross-train and support other departments as needed.
- Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions.
Optometric Technician Duties:
- Assist with pre-testing and diagnostic imaging.
- Provide chairside assistance to optometrists.
- Perform basic vision screenings.
- Handle E-prescriptions (preferred but not required).
- Maintain a clean and organized clinical environment.
- Support efficient patient flow between exam rooms.
- Deliver exceptional patient care and customer service.
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of Optometric or Ophthalmic Technician experience required.
- Front desk or patient coordination experience preferred but not required.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Excellent phone etiquette and professional demeanor.
- Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced setting.
- Computer savvy; experience with EHR/medical software is a plus.
- Team-oriented, dependable, and adaptable.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Reliable transportation required.
- Comfortable working occasional weekends as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
